For a series that's taking a break in 2016, there sure is a lot of Assassin's Creed stuff on the way.

Fans have already been treated to a couple of side-scrolling games, plus there's the upcoming movie and now a brand new virtual reality experience.

Ubisoft announced the news at GDC and on Twitter, telling people to expect an Assassin's Creed VR experience in time for the movie starring Michael Fassbender.

Made by Fox and Practical Magic, the VR experience isn't a game, and was actually shot in conjunction with the film at locations that include Malta, Spain and the United Kingdom.

It's not clear when the VR experience will launch, but the  Assassin's Creed movie will be released in US cinemas on December 21 and in the UK on December 30.

Fassbender will reunite with his Macbeth co-star Marion Cotillard on the movie, with Michael K Williams, Ariane Labed, Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson also in the cast.

Ubisoft is so confident of its success that a sequel is already being planned.

As for the gaming series, Ubisoft recently confirmed that it would be skipping 2016 altogether.

The extra time will give Ubisoft the chance to re-examine the franchise and evolve the tired game mechanics.

The next Assassin's Creed game is reportedly codenamed Empire and is supposedly set in Egypt.
